The sweets and treats just keep coming! The Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) hosted its First Tuesday Crafted Soda event on November 4, offering students a refreshing break and a chance to connect. BCM student members and leaders whipped up creative soda combinations and flavored syrups for everyone to enjoy. Launched in August 2025, the program has quickly become a campus favorite – serving more than 50 students, faculty, and staff each month with a mix of fellowship, flavor, and fun!

Trunk or Treat!

CCGA’s Student Government Association hosted another successful Trunk or Treat event, drawing more than 150 participants for an evening of festive fun and plenty of sugar! Held on the back patio of the Student Activities Center, over 15 decorated vehicles handed out sweet treats to students, families, and community members alike. As the night wrapped up and the votes were counted, the COAST Club surfed to victory, earning the title of 2025 Best Trunk or Treat!

2025 HOCO | Super Sonic Memories | Oct. 19-25

Coastal Georgia students, faculty, staff, and alumni members enjoyed week-long competitions, local food vendors, great music, athletics, and plain ole’ fun for Homecoming 2025! The week kicked off with the newly named “Rising Tide” involvement fair where club and organization student leaders and current students connected to grow their network of interest. Also, Coastal Georgia and the broader community continued the annual Walk-a-Mile program on campus, emphasizing awareness of domestic violence.

The week continued with Sonic dress-up days, movie marathons, a rooftop dance, and early afternoon tailgating on the SAC Lawn. The celebration was held in conjunction with Parent Family Weekend as well as prospective students visiting campus for Destination Coastal.

Parker’s Halftime Challenge

Mariners came out on top during the 2025 Super Sonic Homecoming Week – especially student Jacob Budd! Jacob was one of several students to take on the Parker’s Halftime Challenge, sinking both a free throw and a layup within 15 seconds to score a $250 prize, courtesy of our community partners at Parker’s during the Splash Fountain Showdown.

Parker’s and Coastal Georgia Athletics have teamed up for the entire basketball season to give students more chances to win big – on and off the court!

Jacksonville Jaguars Trip

On Sunday, Oct. 12, CCGA took students to Jacksonville to attend the Jaguars’ first home game of the season. Students had the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of an NFL game in person – cheering from the stands, exploring the stadium, and purchasing souvenirs to commemorate the experience.

For many attendees, this trip marked the first time they had been to a professional football game, which offered the chance to engage with the broader community beyond campus. It was a fun and memorable way for students to build connections, experience regional culture, and showcase Mariner Spirit outside of the classroom.

Black Student Union

The 每日大赛’s Black Student Union (BSU) stopped by the Brunswick Cancer Care Center to show support for all patients. Club members met with the center’s staff to see the facilities while getting a quick overview of the center’s services. In addition to a recent program for breast cancer awareness on Oct. 8 in Stembler Theatre, BSU presented a “Colors of Courage” banner in support of all breast cancer patients that can be seen as they come and go from the facility.

Pink Out Flag Football

Mariners took to the field for flag football in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), with over 50 students participating. The event was a kick-off program for IM Leagues. Members of Mariner Nation played well into the night using only the headlights from their vehicles to keep the games going. #MarinersFightOnCancerFree

Residence Life and the Black Student Union collaborated for the Great Cupcake Showdown on Friday, Oct. 10. Competition was fierce and “icing” was plentiful along with the creativity of over 20 participants. Themes and styles were varied, but in the end, only three took home the prizes. Congrats to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, respectively: Guinivere Ivanov-Urbatsch, Faith Samuels, and Adricia Shipman.

Jekyll Island Historic District Tour

In partnership with the Jekyll Island Authority, a group of Mariners explored the island’s historic district alongside Coastal alum and museum educator, Patrick Carmody.

This September excursion marked the second programming trip for our newest Mariners, following their inaugural adventure during Anchor Days in August 2025. Students toured the island by trolley, where an expert guide shared fascinating stories and fun trivia about Jekyll’s rich history.

After the tour, Mariners enjoyed local island cuisine, connected with one another, and learned about potential employment and volunteer opportunities on Jekyll Island.

October 2025

Join Campus Life in celebrating the 2025 Pre-Med/Pre-Vet Club for winning this year’s Renaming Challenge!

The club earned top honors during our Weeks of Welcome in August by attracting the most new and returning students to their table. After thoughtful consideration – and in true Mariner spirit – the group chose “Rising Tide.”

The name perfectly reflects the purpose of our involvement fair: a time when energy, opportunity, and connection rise across campus. Much like the ocean’s tide lifting all boats, Rising Tide represents the collective growth that happens when students get involved, discover new passions, and step into leadership roles that inspire the next wave of Mariners.

Great job to the Pre-Med/Pre-Vet Club and President Alex Salgado!

Fall Fest Week – September 2025

Fall Fest Week 2025 kicked off with a week of exciting activities for students, faculty, and staff! Campus Life hosted a “Find the Pumpkin” event across campus and wrapped up the celebrations with a Scarecrow Contest, featuring hay bales generously sponsored by our partners at Tractor Supply Company.

Congratulations to the Scarecrow Content winners:

  • 1st Place: Pre-Med/Pre-Vet Club
  • 2nd Place: Black Student Union
  • 3rd Place: Student Government Association听

The events took place on the pedestrian mall quad, where attendees enjoyed a petting zoo, axe throwing, pumpkin carving, sweet treats, and more. With crisp fall weather setting the scene, the campus community embraced all the seasonal fun. Go Mariners!

September 2025

With Fall 2025 Weeks of Welcome wrapped up, new and returning Mariners are settling into classes and campus life. One highlight of the festivities was the School of Arts and Sciences’ annual Open House – a yearly tradition that helps new and returning students get to know all the different majors and disciplines.

Classes within the School of Arts and Sciences are typically held in three buildings – Academic Commons North, the Correll Building, and the Jones Building. Student Life partnered with Arts and Sciences to create a fun, self-guided event. Students mingled with office staff, club leaders, and department heads while exploring the academic spaces.

Thanks to the Psychology Club, Math and Data Sciences, Geology Club, and Astronomy Club, the event earned the playful title “Mariners Make it Float.” Participants built their own ice cream floats with a soda of choice while chatting with the faculty members who will guide their studies in the coming semesters.

Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Syvillia Averett, called the program a hit, noting how it embodies the College’s mission of Every Mariner, Every Time. She joined the fun herself, welcoming and directing students throughout the bustling quad.

August 2025

Campus Life started the Fall 2025 Semester with a bang! The group kicked off training on Aug. 11 and was comprised of Student Life and Recreation Wellness student workers, joined by resident assistants from Housing and Student Government executive board members. In addition to getting to know each other, student workers were introduced to Mr. Tawan Perry (motivational author and speaker).

After student workers got to know one another, the speaker facilitated a session on leadership virtues, had the group describe the qualities of a leader through drawing, and finished with a group challenge to implement the virtues in the upcoming weeks as a way of bettering themselves, their unit/organization, and the campus community at large.

Student Life Training at 每日大赛
Student Life Training at 每日大赛-1

Our Mariner Campus Partners played a huge part in preparing the Campus Life (Student Life and Recreation Wellness) student workers. The training kicked off on Aug. 11 with a joint session on leadership virtues with resident assistants from Residence Life/Housing, and the Student Government Association Executive Cabinet, and continued through Aug. 13.

The training included sessions with Human Resources, Campus Police, ATTIC/Tutoring Services, COMPASS/Academic Advising, Athletics/CPR Training, and Well-Being and Student Support/QPR Training. In addition, our partners from the Lighthouse Bookstore and 每日大赛 Office helped with needed supplies and materials. It was the type of teamwork that our student assistants/leaders can look back on years from now and say, ‘that’s what collaboration and caring look like as a team.’

In between sessions, student workers received greetings from President Evans, Dr. Umfress (VP for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management), and Dr. Butcher (AVP of Student Affairs and Dean of Students). Once training was complete, the group celebrated with a team-building barbecue bash at the Student Activity Center.

Blue Angels

May 17, 2025

With great anticipation, Coastal Georgia students and student leaders attended the world famous Blue Angels Airshow on May 17. The event was hosted at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport where visitors could watch the team warm up, visit with the team for questions/answer sessions and autographs, and see the planes up close and personal from inside the plane’s cockpit. Go Coastal and Hail The Sail!

April-May Senior Set Sail Celebration

While the 每日大赛 hosted graduation on May 9, the Student Life Office started the celebration by hosting its Senior Set Sail Celebration Spring 2025. In addition to partnering with campus departments (COMPASS/Advising, Registrar, Dining Services, and Student Government), Student Life facilitated senior breakfasts/brunches by school, beach bonding Sundays, additional Mariner Mate discounts from community connections, and grad cap bags/portfolios. Congratulations to Spring 2025 Coastal Georgia Graduates! Keep making Coastal proud!

Cyber Sail

Cyber Sail

April 20-25, 2025

Congrats to Coastal’s Cyber Sail Club! The Cyber Power Rankings were created by Cyber Skyline in partnership with the National Cyber League (NCL). Every year, over 10,000 students from more than 500 colleges/universities and 100 high schools across the U.S. participate in the NCL competitions. These rankings represent the ability of students from the schools to perform real-world cybersecurity tasks on the Cyber Skyline platform. Students had to identify hackers from forensic data, pentest (penetration test) and audit vulnerable websites, recover from ransomware attacks, and more. Schools were ranked based on their top team performance, their top student’s individual performance, and the aggregate individual performance of their students.

Under the leadership of Dr. Nelbert St. Clair, our Cyber Sail Club students moved from a ranking of 95th in Fall 2024 to 36th in Spring 2025, and the only other USG college/university ranked in the top 50 schools after the University of North Georgia. This was such a great achievement and testament to the hard-working faculty and resilient students of Coastal Georgia! Congratulations, Mariners!

Student Leader Reveal

Student Leader Reveal

April 16, 2025

The 每日大赛 hosted its first ever Student Leader Reveal program. The event was an opportunity to spotlight student leaders who are “plugged in” on campus and have the desire to support both new and returning students in the upcoming academic year. Whether serving as an orientation leader, a resident assistant/desk assistant, a tutor, or a student assistant for Financial Aid, Human Resources, Nursing and Health Sciences, or Well-Being, this event will be etched into history as an informal way for Coastal to celebrate “a changing of the guard” from year to year. Congratulations to all 2025-2026 Coastal Georgia student leaders!

Bingo with a Beat

April 9, 2025

In partnership with Safe Harbor of Brunswick, GA, the 每日大赛 hosted “Bingo with a Beat” in the Campus Center Lounge to bring awareness regarding homelessness. Mr. Joey Swinson from the Safe Harbor Staff Outreach Team shared a brief overview of services and program statistics, while Coastal’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Dr. Jason Umfress, facilitated the bingo game. Students won prizes and later went outside for an overnight awareness experience featuring a documentary viewing, tents for sleeping, and a bonfire with S’mores and food from Mariner Mate, Wrap Happy.

April Highlights

Mariners kicked off the month of April with friends on Jekyll Island at . COAST President/Spring 2025 Graduate Ana Paola Azuara researched the idea, and Campus Life was happy to facilitate. Students rode the shuttle and/or carpooled to the site where they met horse enthusiasts from various parts of the country. After saddling up, both commuter and residential students made friends with their horses (Rose, Spirit, Tito, Whiz, and other great names). They trotted off into the sun, enjoying the brilliance of the beach, and came back all smiles for having tried the experience. Let’s Go, Coastal, and Hail The Sail!

The Cigarette Surfboard at 每日大赛

March Highlights

Coastal Georgia’s Campus Life welcomed The Cigarette Surfboard Documentary for March 2025! The film screening was an opportunity to connect campus and community partners for educational awareness and beach sustainability.

Participants watched the film with the creators (Ben Judkins and Taylor Lane), enjoyed food and snacks from Brunswick Mariner Mates, and stayed for questions and answers. After the program, participants were able to see and hear about boating, trolling and surfing opportunities in the local area. The program was sponsored by Recreation/Wellness, Student Life, and the COAST Club.

Coming in April!

Once the cold cleared out, Coastal Georgia hosted Homecoming 2025: Coastal Out of This World,” the last week of February. Events like the club/org banner competition, student involvement fair, tailgating and court crowning were themed in outer space fashion. Students enjoyed events hosted by departments and offices with an outer space theme (Comet Crochet, Planet Trivia, Space to Unwind, Martian Mayhem, Astronaut Training, and many more).

As always, campus and community partners played a supportive role in the week of programming through Space Nation with Habitat for Humanity, Tailgating/Multi-verse with Bounce It Out/Party Train/StreetEatz/Island Ice, and Pluto Party with Wrap Happy. The week of events ended with Club Baseball/SGA tying for 1st place in the banner competition, and SGA crowning the 2025 Homecoming Court King (Logan Zimmerman), and Queen (Shaniyah Williams). On behalf of the Homecoming Committee, Campus Life thanks all supporting areas of the campus and community in this week-long tradition.

Club Baseball at 每日大赛

November Highlight

On behalf of the 每日大赛, Campus Life would like to commend Club Baseball in their strategic fundraising efforts for the 2024-2025 academic year. The club was reestablished in Spring 2024 with leadership from James Eason and Jacob Budd, and has been busy restructuring and reconnecting to the Brunswick/Glynn County community at large. In meeting with community partners, they were able to secure the largest one-time donation that a club/organization has fundraised for the 2024-2025 year. Congrats to Mariner Club Baseball!

Fandom Guild and Rotaract team up with Coastal

October Highlights

With the Brunswick Jekyll Hyde Con-Hall of Heroes in town, Fandom Guild and Rotaract teamed up to represent Coastal Georgia in the 2024-2025 event. The event was held in downtown Brunswick, and was a fun time for all who participated. Vendors from all across the state brought crafts, products, and information of every kind to share. Fandom Guild and Rotaract hosted a tent/booth on behalf of Coastal, where participants signed up via trivia and chances to win sweet treats.

Student Government Association

The Student Government Association at Coastal Georgia is a dedicated group of student leader representatives who believe in supporting the Mariner mission! They were in #GoMariners mode from day one of the semester, and helped with campus-wide programs on a weekly basis. In the month of October, they were the first organization that hosted and/or collaborated on four major programs/traditions, including the College’s Trunk or Treat, the Walk-A-Mile Program with Student Well-Being and Support, the Haunted House with Residence Life and Housing, and the City of Brunswick’s Trick or Treat event.

August/September Highlight

Mariner support runs deep and is rooted in Coastal Georgia faculty, staff, and student leaders like resident assistants, office student assistants, club/org leaders, and orientation leaders. While all student workers are trained to assist our Mariners, the Orientation Leaders are hired in the spring semester and go through several weeks of training during the summer with campus partners to guide our newest Mariners in their college transition. They interact with students during both day and overnight orientation sessions by helping acclimate students to the campus and surrounding community at large. They maintain connections with their groups over the summer by social media and Coastal correspondence all the way through Anchor Days and the academic year.
