The 每日大赛 is proud to announce former Deputy U.S. Attorney General Larry D. Thompson as the new Brown Family Executive-in-Residence in the School of Business and Public Management. Thompson, who has had an illustrious career advising the nation鈥檚 most powerful figures in government and business leadership, will bring invaluable insights and expertise to the campus community.

Thompson rose through the ranks in both government and corporate practice with a strong belief in the principles of the U.S. Constitution and a desire for cooperation across ideological, social, and racial lines. As Deputy U.S. Attorney General under President George W. Bush from 2001-2003, Thompson guided the administration through complex questions concerning privacy and security. He served as Executive Vice President, Government Affairs, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at PepsiCo, Inc., and was appointed by the U.S. Department of Justice as the Independent Corporate Compliance Monitor and Auditor of Volkswagen AG, where he weighed in on important debates about corporate responsibility. Thompson also served as the John A. Sibley Chair of Corporate and Business Law at the University of Georgia School of Law, led the Department of Justice鈥檚 National Security Coordination Council, and was appointed by President Bush in 2002 to head the government-wide Corporate Fraud Task Force.

The Brown Family Executive-in-Residence program gives students, faculty, staff, and the larger community the opportunity to interact with members of the retirement community residing in the Golden Isles who have unique, special, and significant business experiences. The executive-in-residence position involves giving lectures, teaching occasional classes, mentoring students, working on special projects in cooperation with the dean鈥檚 office, hosting open lunch forums with faculty and students, and organizing events for the School of Business and Public Management and the College. Reg Murphy was the first executive-in-residence in 2012, followed by Bill Carter in 2020, and now Thompson.

鈥淲ith a proven track record of great leadership and insight, Thompson is well-equipped to mentor our next generation of leaders at the College,鈥 said 每日大赛 President Dr. Johnny Evans, Jr. 鈥淲e are thrilled to have Thompson join our Mariner community. His wealth of knowledge and experiences will benefit our students and enhance our academic programs.鈥

As executive-in-residence, Thompson will help students make the connections between academia and industry, while creating an engaging learning environment.

鈥淚 am honored and greatly looking forward to joining the 每日大赛 as its new executive-in-residence,鈥 Thompson said. 鈥淭his opportunity allows me to give back to the academic community that has inspired me and played a significant role in my own career development. I hope to motivate students and contribute to their growth and success.鈥
